A brief summary of how online learning works at the University of Edinburgh.

How much time should I commit?

The programme has been specifically designed for part-time study. You should expect to dedicate approximately 15-20 hours of study each week. This will allow you to manage your learning alongside professional and personal commitments.

What equipment and software will I need?

You will need to have access to a reliable computer with an internet connection so that you can access course materials, participate in discussions and submit assignments.

As a University of Edinburgh student, you’ll have access to Office 365 at no additional cost, which includes Microsoft Office software. You’ll also have access to a range of software you can download to help you complete your coursework.

Technical requirements for online learning

What if I live in a different time zone from Edinburgh?

Our programme is structured to accommodate students from around the world. All course content, whether it is delivered live or not, will be available on demand so that you can access it at a time that suits you.

Is an online masters as valuable as one studied on campus?

There is no difference between the values of masters degrees gained when studying online and those gained studying on campus, and your certificate will not mention that you studied online.
